I would assume there the same percentage of pervies in Australia as anywhere else in the world. I know for certain there is a huge Aussie presence in SL many are brillant builders and scripters.

As far as Linden Labs policeing what is done there, you have to rember its all user created content. And as of 2007 there were in excess of 12,000 simulators (servers) and a huge 100 terabyte database that handles all the inventory and transactional things going on there. So, I can kinda see why LL is hands off the content. Given the logistics of analyzing all that mess.

I heard an interview with Philip Rosedale a while back that when asked about sex in SL he replied something like "... to tell the truth we would have thought something was wrong if this did not happen .. people are people and they do ingames and virtual envionments what they do in life .. For the past decade our governments here in Australia have struggled to understand technology and the internet. We have several stupid ineffective bits of legislation banning online gambling and spamming. ofc aussie's still participate in online gambling and the anti-spam laws do not stop spam.

The current push is to "censor" the internet much like China does. It will fail of course, but in the meantime we will all suffer. Traditionally, Australians don't have a high regard for authority (probably comes from our convict past) and I personally am not worried about the government's censorship plans, we will find around around them if we have to.

Now where did I put my "Leisure Suit Larry" floppy disks....could be time to erect it again

Despite idiotic naive governments thinking they can control the internet, this won't happen. Australian's as Tabby says have a real 'thing' against authority. If the government actually tries to censor games like that then we will find a way around it. This is only the tip of the iceberg of stupid shit we are seeing from our current government. It won't be long before they get thrown out of office anyway.
