This may surprise you!

This is quite interesting, and perhaps pretty amazing - so read on:

Without cheating, how old do you think this grandfather is? If you post, give your honest opinion and what your first impression was. The answer is at the end!

* * * * * * * * *

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current
events. The grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the
shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general.

The grandfather replied, "Well, let me think a minute,"

I was born before:
television
penicillin
polio shots
frozen foods
Xerox
contact lenses
frisbees; and
the pill
There was no:
radar
credit cards
laser beams; or
ball-point pens
Man had not invented:
pantyhose
air conditioners
dishwashers; or
clothes dryers
clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air; and
man had not yet walked on the moon
Not to mention that:
Your grandmother and I got married first, and then we lived together.

Every family had a father and a mother.

Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir."

And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a
title, "Sir."

We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare
centers, and group therapy.

Our lives were governed by family values, good judgment, and
common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong
and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving our country was a privilege; living in our country was a
bigger privilege.

We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your
cousins.

Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the
evening breeze started.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings
and weekends - not purchasing condominiums.
We never heard of:
FM radios, computers, video games, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.

We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's
speeches on our radios, and I don't ever remember any kid blowing his
brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.

The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.

We had 5 & 10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5
and 10 cents.

Ice-cream cones, phone calls, ride on a bus, and a Coke were all a
nickel.

And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on
enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.

You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600 . . . but who could afford
one?

Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.
In my day:
"grass" was mowed,
"coke" was a cold drink
"pot" was something your mother cooked in; and
"rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.

"Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
"chip" meant a piece of wood,
"hardware" was found in a hardware store; and
"software" wasn't even a word.
And:
We were the last generation to actually believe that a lady
needed a husband to have a baby.

No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a
generation gap.

* * * * * * * * *

So how old do you think this grandfather is?
I bet you have this really old man in mind ... I think you're in for a surprise!

The answer is below, and I'm also willing to bet that your perception of when all of these things occurred is rather off.

This grandfather is approximately 58 years old! A mere spring chicken in the continuum of time and what we have evolved into ... wonder what the next 58 years will bring us.

EDIT:

You guys are too brilliant ... obviously this stuff occurred longer than approximately 58 years ago, and some have guessed the ball park age correctly.

SO ... I have invited you to give your own creative rendition of what people will be writing 100 years from now ... (see my last post) ... have fun ... I hope some of you take the challenge.

if he is 58 then he was born in 1951 penicillin was mass produced in 1944 and Television was before that even.

Granddad must have had early onset senile dementia

Sounds a lot like my Grandfather's stories so he was born in 1929 give or take, I would take a guess like 1920 to 1930

Nice to see you guys are on the ball ... somewhat of an indirect history lesson I suppose! Congratulations to those of you who made the effort to check the facts ... ever wonder what motivates someone to do that, but also why so many take things at face value?

Obviously this has been floating around for some time now, and those who are putting it out there need to update the age every year. SO, the first response in this thread was really close to "right on" with the right age.

You guys are GOOD!! ... I can see that you guys can't be tricked ... sorry, my bad ... but the info was interesting, AND ... it really WASN'T that long ago that all this happened in the big scheme of things, which is freakin' amazing to me.

I wonder how this would be written 100 years from now ... I love the brilliance and creativeness of this community, so care to give your rendition of what will be floating around the "internet" ... or whatever space-age interaction we'll have in the future? What will people be saying about our times now ... this should be rather interesting!

Go ahead, you know you wanna! ... use the same titles and amaze us!
