Joost beta / atrox sounds used in docus

Atrox sounds....

I've been hearing them in National Geographic and Discovery channel docu's, but since i dont record those shows, i was never able to link to one. If you see an episode called 'I shouldn't be alive' where some dude gets lost in the canadian woods and attacked by a bear, listen to the sounds the bear make, it's exactly the atrox roar :P.
So last night i was checking out some channels on Joost beta and again the atrox sample was used. If you have access to it, check out this one:

Joost doest have a time indicator, so i've posted the controlbar so you can see where to skip to for the sound.


I am curious from wich soundlibrary those sounds originate from, i really doubt MA designed them themselves. If so, they did a good job selling the sounds or a bad job protecting their copyrights .

This reminds me of some other threads. Of course MA gets sounds from some database somewhere, but Its still funny to hear them In different settings.

I was listening to a tehcno rave tape rip, and there was a snable snot sound In there lol.

Yeah it was a mad set ...

Oh, and MA deffo didn't make this sound. This tape rip Is way before the time of EU, and maybe even MA.

It comer as no surprise to me that MA have recycled sounds that already exist for their own use.
There must be literally millions of sound bites out there that are public domain.
No point in copyrighting a sound recording of the rain, as anyone who wants the sound of rain can go get it anyway next time it rains.

I heard an advert (can't remember the product) that has the Fap sound in it a week or so ago. Who knows where the advert/MA got it from though.

I hear the Atrox sound every day on TV here (Discovery, National Geographic) its always fun to say to your friends, did you see that Trox run by?!

Often I hear sounds of other games as well, as I watched the LAst samurai last night, I noticed a scream somewhere that looked exactly like the screams that "The Brotherhood of Nod" made in the first Command & Conquer series

Yeah, I understand why companies use sample libraries, my main point is that i'm really curious wich one it is . I hear those trox sounds often, so i can only assume its quite a popular, known product.

I have been working with sound-FX for several years, and I can tell you there are some archives frequently used for commercials, films, theatre, documentaries aso...
Most of them are not public domain, though, but originates from BBC and some German, Dutch and US archives - and you are supposed to pay royalties for using those - or are not allowed to use them at all for public purposes. But it's frequently done anyway...

Every sound-guy is most proud to create his own, though...
I once got a request for a combine harvester sound...
I made that from an office hole-punch, a wooden hanger and a kitchen hand mixer.
"You can fool most of the people most of the time..." - all but the farmers, in that case, I suppose...

OK - I'll check through mine, next time I rumage through the animal section...
I don't do much of that work anymore - but I'm sure this thread will pop up in my mind next time I'm searching the archives...

Molisks are baby lions... berycleds are donkeys lol... and if when you watch Gladiator and hear the roar of a cheetah, it sounds like another EU mob, but I can't remember which one atm lol. I just know that everytime I hear it, I'm like "hey! thats a [insert mob name here]"
