I was thinking about some books Charles Sheffield wrote. They are:
- Summertide
- Divergence
- Transcendence
- Convergence
- Resurgence
- Transvergence
Together known as the Heritage Universe series. (Great books BTW. I especially recommend the audiobooks)
In a forward in one of the later books (can't remember which one ATM, but I think it was Convergence) Mr. Sheffield discusses the issue of the faster-than-light travel with the Bose Network nodes.
He discusses how space and distance is totally thrown off, as now it's more important to be near a travel node then anything.
He gives the example of 3 solar systems equal distance apart. However, 2 of them are right next to a Bose node, and thus, can conduct commerce at a fast pace, while the 3rd solar system is actually many light-years travel from the nearest Bose node, and thus, is hard to get to and conduct frequent interaction with.
Remind you of any place we know?
