Hello all,
with my new Mod membership, Im playing around making myself a new avatar. BUT, I thought Id finsihed, when i realised he still Isn't tranparent on the background. I used the remove background tool, but It still Is left like this... Is there a particular format I have to save It as? Ive always wanted to learn how to use this program, to make some graphics ect, but I am pretty clueless. I had a go on the Help Contents, but It didnt help at all! Thanks. |

Actually step one is: "get photoshop"
![]() But it should be something like this: Step One Start Paint Shop Pro and open the image. Step Two Click on the Magic Wand tool in the toolbar to the left. Position it over the background of the graphic and click the right mouse button. Step Three Choose Selections, then Select All. Click Selections again and choose Modify, then Transparent Color. Step Four Choose Background Color from the menu and set the Tolerance level to 0. Click OK. Step Five Click on the Colors menu and choose Set Palette Transparency. Click the middle button, "Set transparency value to current background color." Click OK. Step Six Click on the Colors menu again and select View Palette Transparency. The transparent areas will now show up as gray checks behind the image. Step Seven Choose Save As from the File menu. Step Eight In the box that appears, click the Options button. The options should be set as Version 89a (the version most supported now) and Non-interlaced. Save the image and click OK. |

Choose "Save as.."
Choose (.gif) from the dropdown menu (filetype) Click "Options" button Click "Run optimizer" On the "Transparency" tab, check the "Area that matches this color" Choose the desired color In this case I had to adjust the "Tolerance" as the background you have made isnt completely white, but a mix of different whites, so I set the tolerance to 10, this step isnt necessary if you use a "clean" color. Result... ![]() /edit Bleh, MrSmith finished first ![]() Though my method is a bit different, from where the pic is already done and just needs to be saved. |

First off, I appreciate you both taking the time to make a noob friendly post ;D Definitely needed In this case...
![]() Right, MrSmith, I did follow your instructions, but after I choose "modify" there Is not "Transparent Colour" option. Im guessing your telling me the the Photoshop way, but I suppose PSP Is different ![]() MindBuster. I followed your Instructions using the orginal Jpeg, same as you did. Here Is my result... lol ![]() I think Im going wrong on the colour choosing. How do I select any other colours other than whats there? I clicked other and nothing happens. I did say I am totally clueless with this program ![]() I have just been reading a few guides on the net, but they're very vague, and don't really give step by step instructions. EDIT: Pinching yours for now MB, but I will do my own, Im determined! ![]() Last edited by Dom_sufc; 07-02-2007 at 12:47.. |

This is a subject that has interested me for some time, I always used to cop out and select the background to the same colour rather than using transparencies.
I followed MB's instructions and it worked on the 3rd or 4th attempt. I found when selecting the colour to set as transparent if I hovered the cursor over the background colour in my original image (not the one in the Wizard), the dropper tool appeared and I could select that colour. A quick adjustment for tolerance and Hey Presto a transparency was created. |

Right-eo guys... Ive got another PhotoShop problem... Yep, PhotoShop, followed your advice MrSmith
![]() OK, basically, I have my 2 transparent Images. With those, I want to merge them into one file, on 2 seperate layers, so I can animate them. I have been playing for 2 hours now, searching all over the Internet, but Im finding It damn hard to find an up-to-date tutorial, and If I find one, its usually not specific enough ![]() Ive also looked through the help on Photoshop, which Is even more usless. I was determined to figure this out on my own, but Ive hit a brick wall. Any help would be greatly appreciated... |

Well open both images separately in 2 windows. Copy the one picture by selecting whole image using Marquee tool and paste into the other image, then u will have 2 layers with both your images. Or.. Just drag the one image layer into the other image window ![]() |

Great! Thanks MrSmith.
Sorry it took me a while to reply. I had read the message, but wanted to have the time to use it, before I posted again. I never realised that would be as easy ![]() Anyway, here Is my near-finished result. It needs some major touch ups, I know... There's so many shit-bits In It, mainly because of all the playing around I did. Now I know what to do, I can start from scratch, and make a perfect animation ![]() ![]() |
