Yeah I agree, there are a lot of free tools and utilities out there.

With some detective work, you can remove any nasties - I even managed to remove a rootkit virus last month (PITA that was!!)

Unless you rebooted after deleting the hosts file, you'll need to flush your dns cache to get rid of the bogus entries.

start... run...cmd
ipconfig /flushdns

should do it.

There may be a hosts.sam file on the pc, which is a sample of what the hosts file should look like if you need a referenece after deleting the corrupted file.

Go and get the demo version of Kaspersky Antivirus. Its fully functional for 30 days and has found viruses on my PCs that Norten, AVG and all the others didn´t even bother to show...

just get Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 and don´t forget to uninstall AVG before.

BTW which Antivirus/Firewall etc are you using?
Perhaps you should change or update some of that stuff, i never had that kind of problems with the software i'm running.

NOD32 + Spybot SD + AdAware + bitdefender.ro + "Google whatever you can't get rid of and add words like remover or cleaner"

All of them can be used safely and free to fix any infiltration pretty easy.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNKNOWN "ANTI-SPYWARE" APPLICATIONS!!!!
