Unfortunately you are all wrong and you all fall in the 98% region of people, (don't worry, I got it wrong as well).
In fact, the true solution that Einstein intended is that in no part of the question was there even a mention of a fish. To ask who owns the fish relies on us making the assumption that someone does indeed own a fish. From logic we can determine that the German owns a pet, and we don't know what that pet is, but it is not enough to say that it is a fish. THAT is why only 2% of people get it right.

Looking at all the people who went through and did the logical process, it seems that even less than 2% of the population can actually solve this.

Wonderful...15 minutes working it out and then I read this...I am soooooo glad I did not fill in the box with the name of a creature

Got to admit, not studying the language too closely I was somewhat convinced that the fish was in a certain house.

That there is a fish is a fact...it is in the question. What is not laid out as a solid fact is that the fish is a pet. It could be someone's dinner. Honestly tho, I would argue that most scientists would work on the assumption that it was a pet, and test it bearing that frame of reference in mind until they reached a stage where their results showed that the fish could not fulfil the role of pet...such as its inability to florish in an atmosphere of parsley sauce.

I would also suggest testing the owner too, as to their views of the creature may not be in synch with the general concensus...I seem to recall American's having a weird way of seeing rocks as pets in the seventies.

Oh, and could you edit your post...it kinda ruins it giving away the answer like that...I am very glad I chose to do the puzzle before scrolling through the messages as I'd usually do.
