Use of rocket/granade launchers in pvp?

There must be something I'm missing, but for the life of me I can't figure out how rocket or granade launchers can be useful in pvp. I've seen it mentioned several times but, from what I've read, the shooter gets as much damage as the... er.. victim. What good does this do?

I guess in most cases they're pretty useless if your intended victim is standing right next to you, but at range the attacker won't take any damage as they'll be too far away from the explosion.

If they're close then it could be still useful if you're wearing Shrapnel protection and your victim isn't.

LOL, nice pun. So you can shoot an "explosive projectile" farther than the radius in which it will cause damage? Hmmm... Is there a set radius or does it depend of the gun?

Yes, if you use a rocket launcher, the ones you put on your shoulder to fire.
The granade launcher on the other hand doesn't throw the granades very far.

It's the same ammo for both.

Yes.
Grenade launchers have shorter range than rocket launchers, but they do more damage. The small circle inside your radar is about the effective range of grenade launchers, unless you are rolling them down a hill. They are on a timer. Rockets explode on impact, although they dont seem to have the range listed in their description, they go further than grenades.

The rocket launcher has long range, but is line of sight only (for aiming purposes... the blast radius may syill get a piece of the target if you're lucky in non-LOS engagements)

Grenade launchers are shorter range, but you can lob a round over the top of interviening terrain or buildings.

If MA increases PvP areas to include urban areas (Hades, Hades HADES!!), the GL will have far more utility than it currently does!

If more PvP engagements were stand-off engagements with cover conealment, camoflage, etc, long range weapons would reign.

Unfortunately, many end up being a pistol dance. Perhaps this is in part due to the "practice" players get in the Octagon?

Alright, so in the current pvp conditions.... (in order to do damage and not also be attacked)
Grenade launcher: "shoot" the granade near the victim and run like hell? (reminds me of playing Halo 2)
Rocket launcher: currently the better choice because you can shoot far, you just have to aim at the person?

I'm still not sure, though: how big is the actual explosive radius? If I understood correctly, it sounded like Bogger was saying the range of the actual grenade launcher (not the explosion) was the size of the inner circle...
