Not yet a scam but...?

A female avatar approached me in Twin this morning, asking for private chat.

Scanning a newbie avatar I accepted chat being prepared for the usual beggars approach *sigh*.

Surprised thought that this avatar asked right away "Where can I get gold card?" and "I want to deposit lot of money."

Surprised because of two things: Gold Card is so obvious now in the Trade Terminal its hard to miss if you are looking for it and of course a newbie asking right away about this.

Next surprise "Can you show me yours?" <- obvious newbie question probably covering the next one "Do you have one?" and thats for me the point of it where my alarm bells went off.

Premature alarm bells or not, I don't care. Avatar has been reported to MA support, if anyone gets the same approach, well, the avatar now has the information, why ask twice "Where do I buy gold card?".

Where there is money there is rats, simple as that. PM me if you need to know avatars name just in case and so it can be confirmed that this avatar is collecting information on characters holding a gold card or not.

it happened to me too few days ago...newcommer asked me about gold card..but there was nothing unusual or dangerous...she/he just asked me "where can i buy gold card" ..i answered with "at the trade terminal" ..then she/he said thank you and good luck and that was all

Yeah that is slightly suspicious, asking a total stranger whether or not they have a gold card. It could very well have been a harmless n00b question too though.

It would have been more suspicious had you replied no, then immediately gotten the response "Can I add you to my friends list?"

Just answer that a gold card s a physical RL object and cannot be shown in game. That way you're not really tipping your hand as to whether or not you have one or not.

... or just answer "Yes", I have one."

Well, not really concerned about it, basically just passing the info on the occurance for others to be aware of

It's not so much the question that concerns me, it's more ot do with the fact that they requested a private chat with one person to ask, rather than just asking generally in local chat.
I realise that they might have been a little embarrassed to ask publically what they thought might be a n00bish question, but still ...

Figure that question on another way.

"noob" is scammer and know about your Avatar skill level and looking best win win situation. Ask simple question or two and find out that you don´t have gold card. Potential and easier hack, same way scammer find full name on avatar, so half way is done, now let's see if something info found on EF or somewhere.

Ok, now is user name (many of players using same name and same password on log to EF, EU and many places) now seek password. Thats maybe scamming try maybe not. Be careful with these. Secure and change passwords, get Gold Card.

Me too.

And I don't request private chat/trade to unknown avatars unless I asked before in public chat.

"May I trade you?" is just a normal polite question in my opinion.
