Active scam alert - social engineering style

Hi all,

I want to warn all members of societies for a scammer that uses the soc system to gain trust with soc members in order to borrow items of value.

I was approached by someone in my soc who appeared to be a colonel, but one that i had never heard of. I have been member of my soc for nearly 2 years now, so that struck me somewhat awkward (though not impossible, having 3 sections and over 300 members). She asked me to borrow a breer p5a, to try it out. Nothing wrong with that, but she asked another question that added to the awkwardness. Anyway, a few days later (i was hunting at the time) i was available to let her have it for a few shots. A girl in nothing but underwear (that previously came from the higher soc within NBK requiring 80k+ skills) and agility under 20. To my question as to how she got the agility so low (and still be able to use the p5a?!) she answered that she had chipped that out. She actually defended that statement and would show me a chip later (not auctionable you know ).

Anyway, i insisted on collateral for the market value of the gun, which she could not show. Her argument was that she was a colonel (you can trust colonels blindly, right?!) and that she was not a scam. Anyway, she could not produce the collateral and was booted not long afterwards.

Today she was reported to be a member of another friendly soc, where she had been trying similar things.


So:
- watch out for her
- always scan someone before trading
- always follow your feeling about a trade, if it feels fishy, it probably is
- only lend stuff to others that you really know you can trust (or use the collateral bit).


Unfortunately i cannot mention the name on this forum.

HAHAHA u know what i am 100% sure i know who u are talking about and they were previously in TKoC for about 2 weeks before her evil ways were discovered not to mention the 2nd account she created and joined my Soc for more free stuff.

She is a very bad person and in rl is actually a he.

Because of this person alone, now all my new recruits ahve to sign up on our forums so i can see their ip address before they are promoted higher then recruit.

It is really sad that people like this are in our community.

and for those who really want to know the name if i am right in my geuss

look in the scammer blacklist thread on my soc forums .

This guy has scarred me for life i can no longer accept any member from his country in fear of it being him. and that really SUX!

Without saying the Name you hit it right on the head! Had this person try to"sell my esi for me" no I think I could do it myself, but it left me really uneasy. few days later was gone.

Hmmm interesting. My society had a run-in with someone who ran exactly the same type of scam it seems. She made off with a soc-mate's full set of gremlin armor after asking to borrow it to help "rescue a friend from an outpost," and stole a few other things from some noobs after asking to borrow the items. By the time I had heard about any of this, the damage had already been done.

I wonder if it was the same person...mind PMing me the name?
