If all avas with 50+ agility run at the same speed, then you'll be quite safe when Cindywood appears on the very edge of your radar in PvP4, won't you?
It scared the bejesus out of me seeing this GD getting noticeably closer and closer and closer. I think her running speed is somewhere around Mach 3. |

![]() I do believe there is a very serious side to this, nothing evil, just business. If you can visualize a chart that shows the player distribution across skill levels in EU, there are several factors that combine to create a "balance" between the various levels. As the average skill level rises, some nerfs (like running speed) seem to be applied to allow the existing mobs to offer sufficient "effort" to hunt. The alternative (which is MUCH better, but harder to pull off), has already been mentioned -- add new mobs with appropriately increased stats, to rebalance everything. However, we can see they prefer a different way. I further believe it's done with a combination of events: rebalancing OUR statistics to match the mobs (take that previously imagined chart and overlay the mobs' equivalent levels), AND rebalance the number of players across the spectrum. This last part is to satisfy marketing, who is tasked with ensuring the target audience is appropriately proportioned, based on analysis done by finance for each "category" of skill/play style. Some of these are obviously less desirable than others from a profitability perspective. For instance, if you are a 100% eco hunter that never deposits and grinds away day after day, don't expect MA to bend over backwards to keep you playing! The high-rollers (whales) will always get that extra attention, and the noobs (minows) will always be needed (if for nothing else, to develop or catch more whales). Everything else is a matter of financial analysis and it's naive to think they don't at least understand this enough to target these groups with either encouragement or discouragement to keep the bottom line strong. More users is not always better, as strange as that may seem. BTW: this is not totally dependant on whether MA makes money from you, as even the non-depositing eco hunter adds to MA's bottom line -- it's only semi-related. So, I can't rule out the possibility that they really DO want you to leave. The bandwidth you take up may be better spent on a bigger cash cow, from their perspective. However, my overall position is merely theoretical. From a personal enjoyment perspective, each person has to come to grips with their own decision to keep playing. If they keep playing, it should be because they deem the game worthy of their investment! If this is not the case, STOP PLAYING (like the governator, you'll be back, and with a fresh attitude!). Completely aside from this is the issue of complaining. Users complain for various reasons. I complain a LOT. When a complaint seeks a resolution, it's a good complaint. When it doesn't, it's pretty much a rant/whine/whatever. Either way, it's a symptom that the person needs to look at why they keep putting up with things. My complaints are not usually emotional, so I'm not excessively invested in the outcome, but some people are. To keep playing despite being constantly drained by the "travesties of the game" is just silly, unless you are actually thriving on the travesties themself, lol. Sorry to go on and on here, but the bottom line is that a dissatisfied user that keeps playing is really not doing anything to resolve the dissatisfaction. The complaints (in MA's case) usually fall on deaf ears (not always), so after a while you have to either go with the flow or leave with the tide. This means *after* you've tried to get it resolved through complaints, petitions, etc..., but still, if you can't be happy playing, don't play. MA very likely WANTS it that way! (As I've said before, they've at least partially ENGINEERED your decision). |

I'm not sure how relevant this is but last night I was playing with three young Atrox and noticed that two of them were noticeably faster than the third. To the extent that the gap between myself and the first two was roughly the same as the gap between them and the third. I had to stop every minute or so to allow them to bunch up again before continuing.
It may explain why I could outrun a Mature the day before Mega, Shaggy and myself had a race against a different Mature which was snapping at our heels all the time. As I say, I don't know how relevant this finding is, whether mobs' running speed has a variable component to it or whether that particular one was bugged or possibly there's a third explanation. |
