Hi Entropians,
I am thinking about selling some skills, the reasons are: - Need PEDs, cant deposit much due to temporary unemployment, - Bad return on hunts for some months (despite I am extremely eco), - I keep using same maxed gears so I dont need extra skills. (All skills are natural, did never eat any.) For example: - I am level 27 on Rifle Sniper and use Breer M1a/M2a/M3a (L) which are maxed at 10, so I dont need the extra 13. - I am level 11 on Medical and use SK-20 (L) but could use T-10 (L) again which is maxed at level 6, so I can sell 5 levels. - I am not crafter, but have some levels in activities related to weapons. Now my questions are: 1 - My objective is to keep my current gears maxed, so what amount of PEDs could I expect to get from this process? (100 / 1K / 10K) ? 2 - On an economic view, should I better sell one Skill (Laser Sniper) or sell small quantity of all major skills so that my avatar remains "balanced"? 3 - Should I read the whole topics "Impact of skill on professions" and "Impact on professions of chipping skills"? Your coments / ideas / experience are welcome, thanks! Xor |

I completely chipped out 4 times and I can say is a bad idea. I would rather pause EU than chip out again.
If you still want to chip out, better chip out everything, except two skills: LWT & Anatomy. And something else, I think you maybe have some misunderstanding of the skillsystem: - "some levels in activities related to weapons" - those most probably mean your laser weapon engineer prostanding. If you never crafted, that prostanding is generated by LWT and engineering (from mining). For example, once you sell your dexterity skill, that would bring down a bunch of prostanding, like paramedic or ranged laser damage. So you can't sell the paramedic prostanding from 11 to 5 directly, but you can sell enough skills which to bring down that prostanding, among others. Sry if I misunderstood your words. You can use jdegre's chipping optimizer to see how to get the most peds from your skills while chipping down to a certain level professional standing:

I have to agre that chipping out is a bad idea if you plan on playing again. Remember that the cost of the ESI plus the loss of skills (10% i believe) amounts to a rather large penalty for chipping out. With ESI currently at about 900% and the levels you are talking about you dont have much ped to gain. Again I agree taking a break is a better idea than chipping out any skills.

Chipping out is NOT a universally bad idea like others have suggested. If your high eco is a result of having maxed a (L) weapon, or unlimited version of such weapon (which is what I suspect), then having extra levels in the related professions does not help you. In other words, if you only need level 20 in Ranged Laser and Laser Sniper to max your weapon, then being level 27 doesn't provide any advantage, so there's no reason NOT to chip those levels out. Similarly, if you have maxed out your fap and don't plan on eventually using a bigger one, you can chip out your extra paramedic profession skills. Use the chipping optimizer to see which skills to extract.

![]() Well, I have entered my skills and chosed the "Chip out" mode but it seems that I can only select a target for the skill points, not for a Profession. Can I tell it "I want to be back to level 20 Laser-Sniper, tell me what to sell"? Thanks again, Xor PS: anyway, this is becoming a theorical training since I saw the prices for ESI's ![]() |

I posted the 'Higher Skills ~ Higher Stakes' and am now reading this. Now that I have read this post, I would agree with your plan for much the same reasoning I stated in mine. That is....
You hit the max level you are comfortable playing at some time ago, so you are no longer gaining skills at an SIB rate and there is not much benefit to your skills above the level where your weapons and other gear is maxed out. So just based on my own logic, I would say sell off some of your skills.... not back to 0 by any means, but to a point where you are back in SIB territory while still being able to use your gear effectively, then when you max out, sell again.... Effectively your skills become part of your loot! |
