Question: Selling a skill removes an "Un-lock"?

I am sure this has been asked before, but failed to find the answer to my question using search.

I understand that when/if you extract/sell a skill and this takes you below an "unlock" point you lose the previously unlocked skill.
What I want to know is do you lose the skill-points also, or do they remain, but are "hidden".
I ask, as I would like to sell some skill in an unused area, and use the peds raised to buy another skill in a profession I do use.
The skills removed will take me below an unlock, but the peds raised in the sale should allow the purchased skill to put me back over the unlock.
Will this reset the "lost then regained" skill to zero, or will it unlock and have the same points it had before?

Any answers appreciated.

You wont lose the unlocked skill, but it will become useless and you wont gain any points in that skill until you "unlock" it again. You will keep all points in the skill until it's chipped out.

I can confirm Sodiak's answer.

When you skill up again to the required level you will get a message that you have regained the use of the relevant skill, and it will start to increase again from its previous level.

Ok.
SO the skill is not lost, but becomes "useless", until such time it is "unlocked" again, and any skill-points held are retained.

They will remain and do not contribute until it is unlocked again... no harm really. I have been "in the red" with CGA for over a year
