I guess its pretty common knowledge that to unlock a skill, you need to use the weapon corresponding to the proffesion in which you have the required level to get the unlock. For example, if you hit level 50 in laser pistoleer hit while using a rifle, you wont unlock combat sense until you use a laser handgun and get a skill gain that contributes to laser pistoleer.
But this thread is to warn you that it also works the other way around: I decided to chip out my shortblade skills. I have unlocked Martial Arts with Knifefighter, but I also had over level 20 in Swordsman Hit. To my surprise, I have lost Martial Arts after chipping out Shortblades, and got the message that I lost a level in Swordsman and am now level 19. What this means is that the systems remembers with which proffesion you unlocked a certain skill. If you chip out that proffesion under the level required for the skill, it will automaticaly lock up and stop contributing to other proffesions. Only after that the systems checks if you still qualify for the locked skill, and you have to unlock the skill again by getting a skillgain in another proffesion where you still meet the requirements. I just had to skill LB for 5 minutes to get Martial Arts back, since I was level 19.98 swordsman after it locked up again, but others might not be as lucky and have to chip up a different proffesion higher to get back the skills they thought they would keep. I hope you get my point, its confusing when I read it, but Im too lazy to write it again now ![]() Click to enlarge Last edited by Nebu; 05-27-2008 at 16:53. Reason: forgot screenie |

sry... but either i dont get it or i think its obvious. If you skill until you unlock something for examlpe lvl 20 martial arts and then chip it out, then you loose that skill, and if you have above 20 on something that gives martial arts.. then its .... lol nvm i just understand what you said.. i give it out in numbers..
Longblade lvl = 4910 + Martial Arts lvl = 1421 = lvl 20 (chip out shortblade, martial arts disapear) = lvl 19.15 and you cant unlock it agian |

As you can see in the screen, I still have 291 in MA. But as soon as I chipped out shortblades, the 291 skills stopped contributing to the other proffesions, therefore I didnt keep the unlock with swordsman, but had to skill back up to level 20. Then Martial Arts kicked in again.

The problem is quite naturally that you need to be lvl 20 in the profession _without_the_unlocked_skill_counted_, to unlock the skill.
Since you needed some MA to get above 20 in swordsman, you infact have not yet unlocked it, so the skill is locked again. It would actually be very strange if it worked in any other way. |

You can unlock it again immediately with a different proffesion, as long as it is still above the required level for it. You don't loose any skills here, you just might have to skill more or less get the skill back so it starts contributing to your proffesions again.
