Skills from scanning

What are all those skills you get from scanning good for?
Like probing, scan animal..., biology, botany, zoology.
It seems there is some use for it, because skill implants get good prices on auction.
So whats the secret about it?

Hmmm, implant cost is quite heavily dependent on availability rather than just usefulness.

I know of no use for these skills except (i) a few of them are relevant for taming (e.g. zoology) and beauty professions (e.g. genetics), (ii) unlock skills such as xenobiology, robotology, scientist, and (iii) increased total skill count (that determines whether your soc is in top 50, etc)

I don't know of any direct use of having high profession levels in the scanning professions though. That doesn't mean there aren't any, but no-one has come forward with any as far as I know. A few people have hinted that they have uses but who knows...

I had a spell when I bumped up my Animal investigator level quite a bit which didn't seem to do anything. I also had a spell where I scanned every mob before I killed it, which also didn't seem to do anything.

Yepp, getting scanning skills is hoping MA will eventually add something useful to it, not just the value of knowing what health (and other attribs.) does the mob, or other player have.

I actually asked marco about the scanning skills and the lack of usefulness of them sometime ago in a Q&A, and got the answer something like "isnt the scanning professions whole point getting information about mob etc.?" , but marco then left unanswered the point that what the skills do, because u scan as good when u have 1 scanning related skills, or you have 10000 scanning related skills.

So like many other professions like taming for example, we who have some scanning skills, will just hope that MA implements something behind those skills.

Scanning bots gets you skills useful in crafting.

During the MMOWC, I scanned the CND crowd a whole intelligence level up
(cost me about 25ped in scanner =P)
Fun skills too like
Perception
Anatomy

Useful related skills that come quicker in an un-skilled skill.

And if you scan star you see he has lvl 34 humanoid investigator
That's my favourite "oddly large but mostly useless" skill.

I would love to get out scan some robots, I thought attackers would fit nicely any tips on what and where to scan for robotology?

Attacker bots are good for scanning if your going to do the bot thing. The only thing with them is you will have to lure them out of pvp4, so be carefull. I dont know how strong you are but I would find one gen3 or lower...have fap on hand, you will get some healing and dodge as well.

Scanning animals will help with pet stuff. Scanning bots will help crafting elctrionic components. Best skills gained from both are intelegence and perception. Before all the skill nerfs ppl used to seriously go to town on scanning to get the intel and the perception gains...not so much any more. GL

if you don't mind standing getting hit by lots of drone01/02's, the OP north of twins is the place. travel a little SE there and u can spend the day scanning. if you're up for a real challenge, go the warrior's and troopers further south. All good spawns since VU 9.1.1
