Does a skill count towards it's own profession levels to keep itself unlocked? For example, lets say I unlock marksmanship with rifle then immediately chip in 3000 levels of marksmanship and chip out 10 levels of Rifle. Will marksmanship continue to be unlocked or will I need to gain the 10 levels of Rifle back in order to unlock it again?

My guesstimation would be that if the 3000 levels of Marksmanship contributes enough to the Pro standing, then yes you should be fine.
Try JDegre's Chipping Tool to find out. But I would say that the 3000 marksmanship is more than enough to move you pro standing up, even with the removal of some rifle skills. |

depends on if the prostanding required for the unlock skill falls below the unlock lvl. if it does, it will turn red in the skill screen and no longer get any gains until you surpass the prostanding lvl again. the skill points will continue to contribute to any prostandings used by it.
and as BL said, JDegre's chipping optimizer tool provides great information for things just like this. ![]() Last edited by JackFlask; 01-21-2008 at 19:25. Reason: seconded the CO Tool |

Yes the skill continues to be used towards your pro standing and if it contributes enough towards that pro standing to keep you at a high enough lvl than it will remain unlocked. If not the skill will turn red and you will no longer get any skill gains in it. However, you can still chip in that skill even if it is red, which I thought was really cool. I had unlocked serendipity and chipped out most of my combat skills but I can still chip more in to contribute towards other professions.

Interesting, so, even if a skill is red it will still contribute but just not go up anymore until you unlock it. That's good to know since I was considering a possible switch from shortblades to a different melee but I wasn't sure if I should finish the first unlocks then switch or switch now, It sounds like it would be better to get the unlocks, skill up a bit on whichever I choose after that while gaining some MA and MDA, then chip out shorblades.

the result of the other thread was that the unlocked skill does not count towards the own unlock level. for instance, serendipity: if you don't have any profession with level 30 or above, without including the effect of serendipity itself, then it will re-lock and it won't count towards any other profession. not saying that you're wrong, just that there seems to be other people stating the exact opposite, so i'm not sure myself (and btw, the chipping optimizer won't say one thing or the other, since it does not handle any "unlocking"-related info). |

weather it counting while unlocked, and then chipping out one of the other skills.. if eg seren is high enough to keep itself unlocked.. an educated guess would tell me yes, but it is just as easy that MA put in a bit of code to make only the "underling skills" count towards keeping seren unlocked. would be good to investigate this. would need a voulenteer.. someone who's just unlocked a skill to chip some of it in w/o doing the activity and then chipping out a tiny amount of "underling skill". |

I will do it when I get home from work today to find out for sure. So there is a good chance you both may be right, I was making an educated guess based on the fact that I could chip in the skill but I haven't actually tested it on my pro standing, just assumed that it would be increased. I have recently chipped out a good amount of my combat skills and I am only at lvl 16 laser sniper. So tonight I will take a screenie of my skill chart before hand, buy a serendipity chip, chip it in and see if there is any difference in my pro standing. Will post results right after.
