After seeing many posts both by societies looking for members, and members looking for societies, I thought I would offer my advice on the subject.
If you are a participant in Entropia Universe (EU), and are thinking of joining a society, you would be wise to do a little research into the societies you would consider joining. Do a simple search on this forum of the Society Name, and some of the Society Leaders and/or Members of the society. Read through some of the posts looking at comments about the society. Read some of the posts made by the leaders and/or members of that society. This will give you a good idea of the people you will be interacting with. If you make a post stating your intention of joining a society be sure to list what you are looking for in a society, and why you want to join one. A society can be a huge benefit to all participants in EU, because instead of relying on information from only a mentor, or a few helpful people you may find on at your times, a society can offer the collective experience of all members, and may have a wealth of information to relate to you. Don't be shy! I would hope that most societies who accept new members would be happy to interact with you before you actually become a member. Find a member of the society in EU and introduce yourself if possible. If you are into team hunting, see if you can join some of their hunts. You may want to find a society active during your online times. Frequently, I have heard the main reason for a person's desire to find a new society is because of the lack of members on at the same time. If you are joining a society for the social aspect, you are probably going to want to have other members on during your peak hours in EU. Be sure to ask when the society's peak activity time is (in MA Time.) Don't be afraid to ask about the real number of active members in the society. If you look in the society terminal in EU, and see the potential society has 100 members, that does not mean you will have 100 new friends. Find out how many are currently active. Bigger isn't always better. Just like many social organizations in real life, societies in EU can be complex, structured groups of friends, family and people with common interests. You might just find some new best-friends among your new society mates, so your effort up front might be well worth the time spent to find the society that is the perfect fit for you. |
