Uber Tamer

I have pretty good skills on taming from just taking care of my pets (about 500 in AL, AT and Zoo each), but to round out the tamer's path (I believe this will become valuable soon) want to build whip skills. Question is, what is the best whip, what maturities can I tame with current skills?

I doubt you have Skill Increase Bonus or at least decent hit ability with the mamba yet, so start with a viper whip (note that this is a limited weapon and can't be repaired; please don't feed the auction trolls selling broken limited weapons at 200% markup). It's the slowest weapon in game (dmg/sec), especially before you max out the attack rate, so go to atlas island and pick on just the small snables for a while. It's good to do when loot is crap.
Burn through an entire viper and then you'll probably be about ready to start using the mamba, so pick a high-tt one of those up on auction along the way at a reasonable price (< 105%). With mamba you can actually take on most snables and small-medium dais and exas, and it's much less excruciatingly slow than the viper. Once you've burned out a mamba and viper you'll have around 850 whip and can consider trying any of the unlimited whips, but i recommend you go through one or two more mambas first until you've maxed the stats out and raised your hit ability more with the unlimiteds. You will most likely be able to tame all snables and exas and up to daikiba providers at that point if you've trained up some of the mobs you've tamed along the way to level 3 (~900 in taming skills including zoology). I still mainly use mamba because i have much better hit ability with it, but for big daikibas you need more whip-power than the mamba can deliver. You have two options on technique. You can simply whip critters to death and get your yellow message, or you can whip them to within an inch of their lives and try to tame them. That will never get you loot, MA and Marco's lies notwithstanding, but it will get you some taming skills. Note that to tame you usually have to stand and take hits for a while as the mob regenerates to avoid killing it before the spirit is low enough to tame, so it is a more expensive option on two counts but does get you more skills. If you plan on taming anything less than a medium snable in the future you'll want to keep a viper whip on hand for the last hits so you don't crit and kill the mob. Man that's aggravating. Crit hit ability should go DOWN on whips with skills, not up. ![]() Last edited by Doer; 06-21-2006 at 13:57.. |

There's a screenshot somewhere from a guy who was whipping the big snables at CND and got an uber when he succesfully tamed one. |

Hello, everyone! I'm just siezing this opportunity to tell VF that his whip is still being used (by me) and is in excellent condition. Just an FYI, I am using it as a backup to my other weaponry because it is severely overpowered for the purpose for which it was intended. I will, of course, return it fully repaired, upon request.
Sorry for breaking in! Carry on... good discussion! Sincerely, Donald |

No rush, Donald
Sorry to hear the whip does too much damage. One area to try then might be those with high level exas or snables, though you might need to chip your evade a little (or carry a good, fast FAP).I used to skill taming at CND, domes 2 and 7 (snables and exas). Especially 7 worked quite well for me, due to the Exas being slightly more generous than the snables. IIRC, last time I was in 7 though, NEVERDIE fucked up the spawns there, and set the maturity far lower. I haven't been on CND for months though, so things might have been altered again. Back on-topic: I also managed to find the link to the screenie I mentioned earlier. Click here. |
