Pet Training Questions

I took a little time apart from my other activities last night, to play with Raffy, my male Snablesnot young. I wanted to test him out, as to his ability to follow me, or go to a pre-determined location. He is at level 3 now, with full trust.

As for the 'Go to' command, he would go only very short distances. Given a destination further than a few meters and he was 'too afraid'. As for following me, he would have none of it, simply ignoring the command.

My question is, what needs to change to get these abilities up? I don't have my stats right in front of me, so I can't give you those. Is it on my end, where changes need to be made, or should I just wait on him to mature a bit?

Also, will he ever be able to romp about in the flat, once I have purchased one?

If i remember correctly, it was possible (right after taming became implemented) to just walk somewhere, while keeping your pet selected, and then giving them the order to walk to that spot.


It circumvented exactly what you describe; having to manually walk the pet for 50m and then reissuing a new go command.

Not sure if this still works, though,as recently I just dismissed all my pets after taming them.

have you Taming unlocked? My lvl3 pets follow me....
Have not tried lately though.

I've long since unlocked Taming. It is near to being level 300 or so... If I should walk away from Raffy, he would definately not follow, but only moan and carp about it, until I returned. Trust me, he's no genius, and apparently not very brave either... Any word on whether or not I can get him home with me, when once I have one?

I highly doubt it. I don't think they like teleporters too much. You could most likely stable it, then retrieve it near your apartment and walk the rest. The problem is when you log off.

It used to be that unless you stabled your pet, it would loose all trust or something like that.

It sounds like you are taking him to near a gun turret. Pets don't go into town or near turrets. You may have seen this happen in the past, however, this was because players could lure their pets past a turret by using a decoy. One or two of the stables also seemed to be bugged - they are covered by turrets so as soon as you move the pet becomes afraid and won't go back to the stable.

Could I suggest that you train your pet in Camp Echidna - the stable is away from turrets and you can walk some distance with the pet. Raffy should follow you (at level 3) or be sent a fair distance using the go to command.

PJ, I do believe you are correct, sir. My friend Kira, who gave me the snable in the first place, told me the situation in Jason Centre was not very good. I did not understand how she meant it at that time. There is a turret very close by and one can constantly hear the outcry of those poor unfortunates who are careless enough to wander near... I am certain, now, that that is what has Raffy so on edge. Thanks for recalling this to my mind. I will continue his training at Camp Echidna, as you suggest.

Were you close to a "city" or trying to get the pet to go there? Usually you get the "is afraid" error message then and if it's following you it will stop.

If it's the stable in Argus it seems "bugged" since it's with the city's "fear radius" (see Pet afraid to go there? and building trust? ).

Though, it's possible to get a pet in a city - if it's tamed there. I remember an exo in the ring at twin peaks

real pets do not behave in this manner.

pets TRUST their handlers and most pet will PROTECT their handlers.
