No longer a reason not to use vista when it comes to gaming

With vista sp1 out there is no longer any reason not to use vista when it comes to gaming.

Vista sp1 solves the performance issues vista has had.

Final Thoughts

If you were expecting a huge drop in performance as your eyes scanned from the XP to the Vista results, well, surprise! As many a tech analyst predicted, Windows Vista's gaming performance conundrum has largely been solved, and it was mainly due to early graphics drivers. In fact, I'd been planning to run a few other gaming tests, but the results from these were so uninteresting that further work didn't seem merited. Love it or hate it, Vista is performing far better than it used to.
Game performance, it seems, has been exorcised from your concern when choosing a Microsoft operating system. That leaves a few other factors, of course: stability, responsiveness, eye candy, price, DirectX version, and a few other odds and ends.
It took about a year and a half, but the performance gap between Vista and its forerunner has finally evaporated.

Then we can compare.

Comparing 64 bit and 32 bit system is not so fair

Still no reason for me to install an OS which can basically be disabled remotely by MS at any point (may it by error or intention).

No thanks.

Do you mean you use 64bit or that the test did? the test did not use 64bit or they might have used both.

I don't intend to use Vista anytime soon. As it is my current laptop (which came with Vista) is now dual booting to Ubuntu Linux most of the time.

I will only use Vista if forced to due to work circumstances, and XP is good enough for gaming (or most other work requiring some form of Windows) as far as I am concerned.

Everything else can be handled by Linux

MS had some 'issues' with product activation which basically disabled quite some perfectly legal windows vista installs.

And since vista needs to reactivate from time to time they can pull your plug.
