ok, i'm pretty much vista illiterate, so please bear with me here. I downloaded the Entropia client with no problem, even waited for what seemed like forever for it to finish the whole updating thing the first time I ran it, then hit a major snag. Once everything was updated and I hit launch, the client tried to install DirectX 9. Problem is, I've already got DirectX 10 on my PC. Can someone please walk me through fixing this issue so that I can run the client? Baby steps, please. Remember, (points to very confused self) "vista illiterate".
Thanks in advance for any help. |

Entropia does not officially support Vista and therefore does not support DX10(only vista can run DX10 - XP/DX9). First time you install entropia - it will try to install DX9(since it doesnt know about DX10) - let it. Also make sure whatever you do you run as admin(right click - run as admin). And dont worry about loosing DX10 - you can install on top or most games nowdays install for you automatically. I am running on vista for last year with no major problems(few bugs that were dscissed here(crash on death for example)), with DX10 and Entropia.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm afraid by the time I posted this thread, I was pretty exhausted and not thinking perfectly clearly.
Here's the error box message I get when the DirectX 9 setup fails. "DirectX Setup A cabinet file necessary for installaion cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Seves are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid." I click ok, the setup closed, and I'm back where I started. So, now what? I've read some really good reviews on Entropia, so I'm really irked here that I can't seem to get on it. I sent a report through the website, but there's never any telling how long those things take to go through. Edit: I already had the client tagged as run under compatibility for Windows XP and as administrator. Last edited by dreamshaper; 06-16-2008 at 14:15. Reason: left something out |

On topic: Did you try to uninstall all and reinstall it completely, the entropia setup should start directx setup as a child process and therefor pass on the admin priviledges to the directx installation process. Or better, try switching off the User Access Control completely, till it is completely installed. |

Try running Services.msc and check if the Cryptographic Services is set to Automatic, and make sure the service is running. If it's not, try manually starting the service.
By default, Vista is supposed to override any settings for this service, as it is essential for Windows Updates, but we are talking about windows here, and stranger things have happened. |

Your problem does not seem to be related to Vista, but rather that you do not have the current DirectX. Download it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads. After that reinstall Entropia with admin rights, should work fine then. |
