Folks,
For the folk with these Nvidia chipsets, there's a pre-release beta driver with PhysX support. First edition works on: GeForce GTX 280 GeForce GTX 260 GeForce 9800 GTX+ GeForce 9800 GTX Using Forceware 177.39 and PhysX 8.06.12 Nvidia's site lists EU support. More 8 and 9 series GPU's will be supported in the upcoming weeks and possibly better SLI support. DO NOT EXPECT too much from this. It's most definitely NOT a polished release. Expect bugs and other issues. |

You might be able to "trick" them into installing for other cards. I'm using the 177.35 drivers that were released for the 200 series cards to run my 8800gts 512 (it's a folding @ home thing.. the new drivers fold at upwards of 5k points per day)
here's a listing for anyone that wants to play ... http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/ |

Trick them? Believe me, better minds than me are already working on them.
The 177 series I believe have the CUDA stuff installed. That allows apps like that to use the GPU cpu for processing of data. The PhysX is a driver add on. not sure if it'll work with yours. Depends on the G series. G92 or GT200 these are the current supported with more coming soon. For those that DO NOT know how to look up their G code: G80: GeForce 8800 Ultra Geforce 8800 GTX Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB G84/86: Geforce 8600 GTS/GT Geforce 8500 GT GeForce 8400 GS G92: GeForce 8800 GT 256MB/512MB GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GeForce 8800 GS GeForce 8800 GS 384MB GeForce 8800 GS 768MB GeForce 9800 GX2 G94: GeForce 9600 GT |

Going here will get you a link.
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ Drivers (with modded INF) are working just fine on my lappy. Shame tho, I have G84 SLI'd and the PhysX isn't enabled for me. Can't hurt to try. And supposedly all G8x and above have the capability of using the PhysX enhancements (and CUDA). Remember, this is the FIRST BETA release of the physx stuff from Nvidia. Don't hope for too much!!!! |

here's a link to more info + some of the result people are seeing with the 177.39 drivers. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=264880 I haven't been able to get a good set yet (the softpedia are corrupt for vista x64) to play with. My interest is more along the lines of whether they include CUDA or if this turns into a physx OR cuda issue. The one thing that is certain (other than death and taxes) is that people are definitely excited about nvidia really starting to include the support for both techs in their newer drivers. |
