do i understand it right that i need to extract the dll files from the ?msi? package to the \home\username\.wine\windows\system? or what ever the directory would be. Previously i have only moved the dx9_**.dll there and it "semi worked"

YAY mrporper.
Copied over yer filelist. This is what i got with Cedega 6.0: This is windowed mode. It works, mostly. I have some glitches when looking up (all objects disappear, u can only see the sky) and with dialogs like the teleporter (works only sometimes), which might have to do with my screensize default (I play at 1680x1050 normally). Teleporter also does not refresh the map when changing continents. There is no antialiasing, and therefore the font looks crappy. Inventory wont work, you cant change the Item category. Logout worked once for me, not anymore. The Rightclick menu wont work. As you said, performance is EXACTLY as on native Windows, which is good. Thanx all of you for getting this to work. What I used: Cedega 6.0, Dapper Drake (without a reinstall, the crappy multiply updated version that is on my comp), and mrpropers filelist. Regards, DD |

Well, the Cedega folks did. Praps we can find out what is responsible for that, if thats legal, as this actually might be one of the reasons why Cedega costs money. Mabee its to do with the improved Freetype and Xrender they use.
I tried to check every box in the Point2Play Gfx settings, but that slows down the client to a crawl. Now for the clicks that don't go through in dialogs: I tried to check every box in the Point2Play Gfx settings, but that slows down the client to a crawl. Makes the buttons work, though. Now I'll have to find out which of the settings it is. |

Hm. It looks like I just completely lost my funk.
Can't get the game back to the performance I experienced before I changed the Point2Play settings. I guess some of the underlying Wine config was changed permanently by that. So with this all fubared, I guess I'll give it another try with a fresh Cedega instance. Doer, that link to winehq is an interesting read. We should really delve deeper into the font issue, to get them working in wine. I am in germany, and IP law here still gives you quite a lot of freedom in doing stuff with stuff you paid good money for. So I will do some comparisons of a Wine and Cedega instance if I have the time. |

OK folks, I have it working now near-to perfectly in Cedega 6.0:
This is a step-by step howto to make a linux box run EU. 1. Get yourself a box that can handle EU on Windows comfortably. 2. Install a flavor of Linux to your taste. I used Ubuntu Dapper Drake, but everything should work. 3. Purchase a Cedega subscription. I think their cheapest plan is 3 months, what would amount to about 15 bucks. 4. Install Cedega. I used the plain old "kill my package manager" .tgz that gets untarred in the filesystem root. Back in the day, tar WAS our package manager. Use the prepackaged release you like best, weenie!5. Start the Point2Play GUI. 6. Run Cedega updates where applicable. 7. Create a game folder to hold the link to the ClientLoader.exe 8. Copy your Windows C:\Program Files\MindArk folder over to the newly created game folder's Program Files subdir (it usually resides in /home/$USER/.cedega/$FOLDERNAME/c_drive/Program Files, but your mileage may vary) 9. Copy the following files over from your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder to /home/$USER/.cedega/$FOLDERNAME/c_drive/windows/system32 : Quote:
11. Double click the link to start ClientLoader. 12. Sound (OSS or ALSA, it don't matter, but it might be my Linux install and my crappy onboard sound) was to blame for slowing down the client to a screeching halt, as i posted before. So configure the ClientLoader like this: (AA can be turned on, again it makes no difference) 13. Log in. 14. Enjoy EU in Linux. Please report back here if this works for you or not. Regards, DD |

Ah. I shoulda said sumptin about the hardware I used:
This is on a 1733 Athlon XP (2100+ its called methinks). The box is old, and I think EU runs better than on native Windows. $ lspci 0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc.
