I smell sarcasm, but as I am not sure, I will try to explain.
He probably wants to keep his mining-places for himself, as would I, so he probably coloured the ground so we would not get any clues as to where it is.

Many people think so, therfore they will mine there and so they will use up "your" spot... (wich it really isent because most likely many more mine the area , but not so many that it would be if you posted the coordinates.)
