The thing i hate about all these (L) rifles is that they are so damn slow. Infact, its the reason I decided to change profession to HG. Weapon of choise: Korss.

@ForrestPark, I am working on that for pe-wiki, and its half ready. One issue I have is: What does recommended level mean? Does it mean you have 10/10? And from what level can you use the gun then?

I've gained lots of knowledge from reading other people's posts in the forum. So I'm happy to share any knowledge I have gained myself.

And its not without some self-interest either - I think some people fear that by posting some info they are giving away stuff to other people and that they will lose out somehow. However, I find that posting ideas sometimes helps clarify them in my mind, sometimes helps me remind myself of something I had been forgetting, sometimes gets feedback which shows me I should change some of those ideas, etc. So whilst hopefully helping other people too, I am also still helping myself

There's three ways to use a forum imo:

(i) To read to get ideas but not contribute your own ideas
(ii) To read others ideas, share your own ideas and discuss
(iii) To attempt to spread misinformation to give people wrong ideas

I think people who are (i) gain a bit from using the forum. People who are (ii) gain a lot more, and also feel better about it because they also give a lot more. People who are (iii) hopefully end up getting banned

Happily, we have a lot of people who are (ii), both here at EF and in the community as a whole.

Anyway, I shall give myself a now

Yes I know what you mean, having recently switched to using quite a bit of pistols (H400, H380, even Svempa S60) when I switch down to a Breer it does feel awfully slow for a while!

But then again pistols always were meant to be faster than rifles no?

Certainly I agree that would be pretty cool! Sadly way beyond my web page creating skills at the moment.

Sounds like Witte is trying to do that on wiki though so good luck with that!

My only comment again is the difficulty of comparing L and non-L weapons means there will be some guess work involved (the 8%/20% rule is an estimate of the effect of HA for instance, also things like the effect of sights and scopes need to be considered). Being a mathematician I tend to shy away from guesses I confess, but of course an educated guess is better than no guess at all!

I think when you reach the recommended level (as given in the weapon description) you go from 0 HA to 3 HA instantly. But you still have bad damage range and not maxed HA. I think its also when the skill increase bonus kicks in. I have a feeling by the time you have maxed out the gun, the SIB has finished.

For economy purposes obviously you'd want to wait until you've maxed out the gun.

Unfortunately, that's the crazy ingame logic MA came up with. The shoulder braces to absorb shocks, huge heat sinks, and the larger sizes of rifles/cabines all indicate that they should deal less damage per second than pistols in MA eyes.


I mean why else do irl soldiers use pistols as their primary weapon and keep their assault rifles for backup? :p

Carebears site entropiatools.com offers a nice tool which you can use to calculate the dam/pec and avg dam/sec for all guns. You can fill in your HA, min dam, and the markup and tt of limited guns. You can easlily see that with low skills, every sib gun is better than non-sib guns. Even imp mk2 is worse than korss if you don't have that much skills.
If you are going to use a kors h400, i strongly suggest amping it with a106, or a105 if you don't have one. This way you will get the most damage/sec and damage/pec out of it. To only amp it with a103 orso is a waiste.

But still, with korss you can loose much fast! I used it too hunt allophyl. I got a 500 ped hof, but lost all of it the same day. Only without markup it seems you can break even. Well must habe been my consistent bad luck ...

A wise suggestion would be to hunt feffoids . I looted 3 korsses, and 1 riker in just 2x200 ped hunt. (prolly abit lucky ofcourse)

Ah oh, so the recommended should actually say required (as it does on tools AFAIK). Is there any logic behind the SIB period? Like, 5 levels from unlocking till maxing out for every gun or somthing like that

I looted 1 korss on 2000 ped ammo (and that was the only global). I dunno i just loot crap

Yes I'm having trouble looting anything from the feffs at the moment too. Keep getting UL1 instead of korss lol. I'm on about the same amount of ammo this month on them without globals nor korss . Still, running about break-even on them so nothing lost.

I have looted H400 from Bristlehog in the past so maybe they're worth a try to. I sometimes think that some mobs just don't loot well for certain avatars, and others loot better. Also feffs are very widely hunted so there's a lot of competition for the items they drop I guess.

Spurred on by Witte who's just made a great addition to wiki for calculating actual dmg/pec and dmg/sec based on profession levels (documented here), I have finally got round to updating the guide!

Updated the first post: 05/02/07

Added: Stats for Breer P4 and P5
Added: Section on real stats (with misses and damage range taken into account) for comparison between L and non-L weapons
Added: Section on weapon calculation web-tools
Added: Best current low-level economy option in Conclusion
