Hi guys,
I've started with Entropia Universe yesterday and I'm having a lot of fun with it. But I have a question regarding weapons. Specificly Melee weapons. I read somewhere that the 1x0 Axe is the best newbie melee weapon. But where do I go from there? I train up with this axe and what would be a logical next weapon? Thank you for any hints you can give. Dray |

well that used to be the case but EU changes alot each VU
so now you are best off with TT weapons i think the next step will be a melee weapon with more damage many L melee weapons around. Look in auction for better melee weapons with more damage Ranged hunter mainly so cannt help with what to get exactly |

The best way to go when first starting is generally agreed to be using an opalo laser rifle, and skilling as a ranged hunter; however, if you want to go with melee, then you would want to use the Trade Terminal two handed sword until you max that, then move onto using the loughlin cutter series of L weapons.
This guide: Guide to "Skill Increase Bonus" on weapons will help you choose what weapon you want at what level range. Edit: I forgot to add, one of the reasons L weapons are good to use for a noob is that because You can max it much quicker than with with non-L weapons. So many people use the L weapons once they are already maxed on them, even though they don't get SIB, because they will hit more and do more damage with them. |

melee might be not the best choice at the moment
-ranged weapons can be amped, increasing eco and damage per sec -limited melee weapons are quite hard to get, especially L weapons at useful prices -if you want to hunt in team with ranged ppl you will find yourself quite useless sometimes anyway if you really want to go into melee, try longswords the trade terminal one, "enblade A" or so, will be the best choice for that, not the axe 1x0 or 2x0 the reason is the skill increase bonus (SIB) the weapon offers, which also means it can be "maxed" for my examples i will use the opalo and jester d1, that are a ranged weapons, but show the difference the opalo has SIB, the jester not while you will deal 4-8 damage with 10/10 hit ability (HA) very soon with the opalo the jester will offer 2.3-8 with 0.8/10 HA that means, that the SIB weapons will deal more damage (in this case at least 4, while the jester minimum is less) and also hit more often (0.8 compared to 10 out of 10) the enblade from the tt offers that SIB, the axe not then, to skilling further the weapons in the tt are the only really easy to gather weapon with SIB which can be repaired the other weapons will be limited, and you have to buy a new one once its broken "why should i do that, and not rather go for the axe then" because of the higher possible min damage see opalo example and also the better hit ability example opalo and jester both have an ammo burn of 2 weapon cells but as soon you miss, what will far more likely happen with the jester, you burn 2 for nothing same applies for melee example, the opalo again ammo burn 2, decay 0.02, damage 4-8 i will calculate with min economy here, so you basically have 4 (damage output) divided by 2.02 (cost to shoot), that is at least 1.98 damage per shot (the jester had around 1.1 btw, which makes it worse) why is that important? say, you have found your prey which is a snablesnot male young, with 20 HP now imagine, you use either an opalo, or a jester and also imagine you become very unlucky, and just deal min damage so, you need 5 (20 HP / 4 damage min) shots with the opalo, cost 10.1 pec (5 shots*2.02) with the jester 8.69, (20HP / 2.3 dam min) shots, cost more than 16 pec those 6 pec you could have saved yes, that is an example considering the worst case, but the lower min dam will pull you down, not that much maybe, but in the long run it does imagine you would kill more than 1 snable... also, you miss more often with jester dealing damage 0 "what (L)imited to get, when, and at what price?" first, to when you should or rather could, when the damage you can deal is around 10% of its maximun one (say max is 5-10, you might switch at 4.5-9) and to what see when, more or less, since it depends on your damage especially, but the first will be most likely the laughlin series what price? here the melee problems start to kick in while ranged deals its damage with ammo mainly, melee does with purely with decay remember the opalo ? 4-8 damage, 2 ammo burn, 0.02 decay the ammo you buy at the tt for 2 pec eco min 1.98 now, imagine the opalo would be limited and sold for 200% that would basically double the decay, since that is what you "buy" with markup, not the ammo so you had 4-8 damage, 2 pec ammo burn, and 0.04 pec decay eco min damage, 1.96 not that much difference now imagine this would be a melee weapon 4-8 damage, but no ammo burn, decay 2.02 min damage eco, 1.98, of course imagine it would be limited, also sold for 200% 4-8 damage, no ammo burn. but 4.04! min damage eco 0.99 that IS worse conclusion any L melee weapon should just be bought with very very low markup else it simply isnt worth it rough guide, max 106%, rather 105% price hf ![]() |

Alice is right ...get the tt sword
Skills rise faster and it's effective. Being faster to skill you will also find that you will get more "critical hits" with a tt weapon sooner..and more often. Crits are larger than normal damage inflicted ..much larger and very helpful obviously. She is also right about opalo being a better choice unless you are set on melee weapons for some reason. Melee can be more expensive. I think most people still own an opalo regardless of skills because it's useful as a finishing weapon and for lower level mobs no matter what other weapons you are capable of using. tt is definitely your friend when you start up though. If you want to know how well you can use a weapon, either select one you own in inventory (or in auction will work the same way) and right click it's image there....all the stats of damage and range and hot ability are in that panel so you can compare. It shows the weapons capability and also your capabilty with skills you have now next to that info. HA of 10/10 is good HA of 1.0/10 isn't so good...and that is roughly where an opalo user will be after a few weeks using one, maxed out on that weapon but a long way off maxed on most others. It's confusing as hell for a new player, but you'll soon get the hang of it don't worry You won't go far wrong listening to Alice meanwhile. Have fun . t |

Wow thank you all for the really helpful advice.
I'll go with the Opalo for now then. I really appreciate all the friendly advice that has been given , it says a lot about the community I think when people take a few minutes to help a noob with a question. ![]() |
