Not that it is relevant to the topic, but are you saying that loyalty and acceptance are never good?

I think he's more saying that loyalty and acceptance with blind faith is not good. Loyalty and acceptance is ofcourse good, but not if your not able to question it at the same time.

Sorry, maybe I should have put "blind" infront of each of the words to make it clearer

I do think acceptance, loyalty & faith are all a-ok things. I dont think that blind faith, blind acceptance & blind loyalty are though.

I think the points I listed were pretty general things that make out the basis of any rp I can think of atm, regardless of tabletop or digital. So Im curious to what industry you're referring to, and what that industry says.

In general what many seem to want is what generally seems to be referred to as "future history", detailing what has not yet happened, but what did happen before we arrived on Calypso.

As an ardent Sci-Fi fan, I have to go along with this.

It adds depth & meaning to what's around.

Without it, most of the man-made (or robot made?) artefacts littering the landscape like to much litter look like sets left over from an un-finished b-movie.

With it, the ruins of Zachion take on added (imaginary) meaning, suggesting a huge battle, ruining a capital city.
All the shipping containers lying about, apparently waiting to be un-loaded (all the doors are shut) suggest activities intended, but never started.
The various wreckage of both human and robot vehicles become both war-graves and monuments to those who lost their fight against the Self-replicating robots (AKA Von Neumann machines) when an error crept into their programming causing them to no longer recognise humans as "friendly forces".

I also think that the suggestion posited by others that writing this history be thrown open to the community is a good one.
Only MA know what's to come, but why can't the most imaginative of us write what has come before?
Knowing the literary skills some members here possess, I am sure that someone will be able to come up with something that well written, covers what needs covering (or making up) and is a damn good read.
MA gave out a fap for someone dressing up like their avi, so so why not a prize to the "official historian"?

I'm talking about the game design industry. I dont have the specs at my place though but i might be able to look them up, but i wont promise anything though. But yes EU has some of them, but not enough to make it a MMORPG and that is also why i like to call EU a MMOUP ie massive multiplayer online user platform.

hmmmmm Maybe some segments of the history could be opened to the community in some way. I just can't help but think unanswered things in the past could very well affect what will happen to us in the future so maybe MA wants to leave those doors open.

Plus its the developer's baby so to speak. It was their initial inspiration and maybe they will renew that inspiration by weaving events past, present, and future.

There are probably a lot of boring aspects in running a MMO and the truely creative concept parts of it are what make it all worth it. I know I love to paint, draw, write, and think up concepts all the time that is the fun aspects of my job(s).

It would be nice for the community to be included in a collaborative creative process with MA but I would hate to take away any of the inspiration they might gain from doing it themselves.

I like designing concept weaponary, armor, tools, and monsters and I would do it whether there was a contest or not. I may not always show my work but I do because of the inspiration I have gained from EU.

Maybe the best we can hope for is a "wishlist" like section in EF where we could propose ideas concept histories and what not. Maybe our inspiration in EU will inspire MA as well.

Ohhh well just my

Either way MA decides to take it is fine by me just so long as it eventually moves along

Exciting Opportunity

Mindark, publisher of Entropia Universe, the only virtual universe with a real cash economy has intern opportunities for motivated college students interested in science fiction writing and MMORPGs.

Qualified candidates will possess a documented background of science fiction writing (short stories are ideal) as well as experience with online gaming.

Compensation will include a small stipend. The real reward for these positions is the chance to mold one of the most exciiting virtual worlds and shape the direction of Planet Calypso and its inhabitants.

Mindark will also work advocate on behalf of these student interns to assist them in getting course credit for their work.

Why sit in a stuffy English Literature class when you can write science fiction and see your ideals implemented into an exciting universe?

For more information contact....
