In-game Mailing List

The idea of having in-game e-mail has been discussed before, but something I'd particularly like to see would be an in-game mailing list system.

This would be invaluable for promoting the events I run, and could be useful for many others.

The way I think it would work is this - I set up a mailing list called "Entropian Events News" at the Mail Terminal. Anyone else could then join the list using the same terminal, and could leave it at any time. The terminal would also have functions for searching the lists available (similar to the soc terminal).

As the list owner, at any time I can send a Bulletin to everyone who's signed up for my mailing list. They'd receive it as a pop-up instantly or, if they're offlline, whenever they next log in.

I'd be happy to pay a small fee to run a mailing list like this. Something like 10 PED a month or 1 PED per message sounds about right to me.

It'd beat hopping around all the TPs shouting, that's for sure

Very clever use of the idea, and should be looked into by MindArk for sure!

You play to much other games. I hope MA staff will play some online games from time to time so they can see what features are out there... Features in EU are retarded compared to other virtual universes, but those evolved are in some games. I have high expectations from the next big VU with the new engine. Until then I expect no real change, except for some changes in mobs, new items and RX events.

Or you could just use the ingame advertising system, theres usually a Big screen at each TP in most cities. I dunno i just think it's something that could be abused and used to clog up someones system when they're logging in.

If anything i used to just pm people on here when i had an event, copy and paste the text to all your friends via pm. In fact i used to make a flyer and post that.

In fact with the new friends system on ef maybe that could be utilised?

Abused?
A friend is playing Eve and this system is there and there are probably more active players than it will be in few years in EU. And it works smooth. But if there's no will, there's no way.

Nope, I don't play any other games If this is similar to the system in another game then it's just a coincidence (and shows that is muyst be a good idea )

Not that I've seen. Lots about e-mail systems, but not this particular feature.

I'd hope that a mailing list system would be better than the in-game ads and would serve a different prupose. I want to be able to send something to people that I know are interested in receiving it - i.e. targeted advertising, not the broad brush approach that the ad screens provide. For a real-world comparison, one is like billboard advertising and the other is more like direct mail.

People would be free to unsubscribe at any time, and it would all be a self-contained system, so I can't see where any abuse could come in. The closest you could get is if you signed up to someone's list and they started sending 20 annoying messages a day advertising sweat for sale at 0.4 or something, in which case you can just go to the terminal and leave the list.

If we need more 'security' than that, perhaps there could be an abuse-reporting system or built-in restrictions such as, for example, only one message can be sent per day.
