Name Change

It would have been nice for MA to give us the option within 7 days when you first joined to change your name, just like you can boot your mentor if you don't like them within a time frame. Thats my wish

Nothing stops you from writing a nice support case asking for a name change. If you have a valid reason to change name, then they will change it. I know of at least 2 people who got name changes in the past.

They don't give the option as this would leave the door wide open for scammers...

i was thinking about name change on my first ava earlier so i sent suport case.(was denied)

In reply i received that to each ava and his name is connected reuputation and social bound with other participants. Name change is allowed only when you used your real life name, or name which is offensive or so.

MindArk believe that the reputation built by an avatar in the Entropia Universe is strongly connected with the avatar's name. As a result, our policy is not to change an avatar's name unless:

1. It is in violation of the End User License Agreement (EULA).

2. A participant mistakenly entered his/her real name as his/her avatar name.

We hope you understand how this policy helps to build trust inside the virtual universe. To allow avatar names to be changed would undermine confidence in existing avatar relations.

Or like i said, a valid reason. I know of one avatar, which was used by both a husband and a wife. The avatar was named by the wife and she died of cancer. The husband wanted to continue playing with the avatar, but couldn't handle the flow of memories that the name brought back. Mindark allowed a name change.

So, a valid reason is what is needed... MA will probably not allow more than one name change i bet

I remember a case of a name changed when avatar had middle part of the name connected to a RL person. I think it was a woman who named avatar with her husband's name and after devorce MA allowed for the change of that part.
Not sure though, only read in on the EF somewhere....

If you realize you want a name change within 7 days then it's easy enough to delete and make a new ava. Not much to lose

I can see both points of view here. I remember not having a clue when first signing up, nor how it would be displayed. Then the vu's and things changed and now selectable wich is cool. The only solution I see is to explain it a bit better for first time players, and set forth a few examples or screenshots to let them know how the name will be used and displayed. I would have done a different name if I knew beforehand what the results would be for nickname, first and last etc, but now I guess it sticks and dont mind it.
