Unhappy Please take care of the melee users!

My intention in making this thread is simple. There are actually five different types of melee weapons: Longblades, Shortblades, Whips, Clubs and Powerfists. So far so cool. But if we have a look at the numbers of weapons to chose, there are at least three times as many BLP and Laser Weapons!! And after all almost every melee fighter uses longblades, prolly because you have the most weapons to select there. There are at least 50 longblade weapons if you count in the axes, but whats about people who would prefer to fight with other melee weapons?


Whats about whips? There are only 8 different ones and they even share the same design. And after all there is no real whip you can hunt big mobs with, as the best one is just a little bit better than the TT sword!

Suggestion:
Hows about some kind of strong energy / laser whip series, like they had in star wars (if I remember correctly)? Or maybe one with spikes to wound your enemy better?


Lets come to clubs: Here we have a little bit bigger diversity: 11 different ones. The damage isnt bad at all for the big one but somehow I miss a very little one for beginners for example.

Suggestion:
Hows about a tiny TT club, just a bit bigger than a shortblade? Just to collect some first skills with and see how it is. Actually there is no club a beginner could afford, as the TT value starts at 68 PED already..


Last but not least: Powerfists, the "biggest" melee minority with 16 different weapons to chose from. One of my problems here is, that they all look the same, like whips do. The best PF (Smacker 3) is maxed out very fast already, and then there is no more SIB possibility. Another problem about powerfists is the usualy BAD economy. I consider an economy "good", when its above or at least close by 4.0, like most weapons have. But most fists are far below that value!! Only 4 of them go above 4.0 and most are somewhere around 3.5!

So I have several suggestions to make here to make those weapons more attractive to the mass:
First of all the Economy, there should be more fists above 4.0.
Second suggestion is about the design: Why can't there be some fists with some spikes or at least with green, red or white glow? Or maybe even two handed fists, to make up a real boxing feeling!
Third is the damage of course: There should be more stronger fists for higher skilled people, maybe even with SIB.


Attachments:
Still you cant improve melee weapons with attachments. So what do you think about weights, to make the weapons heavier to increase their damage? Or for energy based melee weapons some kind of special energy cell, that improves the energy output.

Ok, that was all from my side. I hope you like my ideas and share my opinion. If you have any more suggestions to make, feel free to post them!

the few weapons arent the problem of melee
the ones who are there are quite nice

what actually breaks the nek of melee are the prices of L weapons (see my thread "current melee situation") and no amps

so, improving melee is indeed necessary

Hey ... Very nice thought actually .. We have a newer guy in soc who is totally MELEE fixed .... and very sour about the rather poor availability of decent weps.... So yes / I too like your idea of STAR WARS whips (maybe some electric outlet) but i doubt ECO would be any good.

Melee amps sound nice... but honest.... a bit too much @fantasy game in that aspect. Lets keep EU different from those other fantasy MMORPG.

Beginner clubs sound great too ... and maybe TT whip to start on.

Maybe MA could introduce a MOD MERC of the PF ... MOD. Smacker or so

Think u should mail your ideas to MA ....

Couldn't agree more. I would like to try out one of the new L weapons but the 1k + price tag is kind of expensive...


PS isn't asking MA to "take care of the melee users!" tempting fate...say it in a strong Italian accent for the full effect.

Why fantasy? O_o I mean in RL you can hurt other people better, if u beat them up with heavyier stuff, no?
And about energy amps: Actualy we are using energy amps already on laser weapons. So we already went that step, just not for melee..

I remember Johnny Alpha , a.k.a. Strontium Dog of 2000AD fame having a very cool laser whip...

So, yes please. One of those.

For realism there could be a very good chance of hurting yourself with it until you get higher skilled...

I know there have been requests for amps for Mêlée weapons.

How does one "amp" a Samurai Sword though?

A light sabre is probably amp-able, ditto other energy Blades. But not all the weapons are of a type that would lend them self to Sci-Fi type Amps.

Mêlée simply refers to close combat (regardless as to weapon).

IN MMORPG, Mêlée has been bastardised "Melee" and now only means "hand to hand" combat, using close combat weapons.

I can't think of a way to amp a sword that is as logical as adding an amplifier to an energy weapon. (amps add energy to whatever they amplify.)

Unless one does not use amps for swords/axes/etc, but other modifiers, such as "hollow blade, handle filled with mercury" to increase the mass of the blade after the swing has started.
Such a modification already exists is Sci-Fi, with the heads-man's Sword used by Severian the Torturer, knows as Terminus est.

regardless, I await an understandable amp for my Axes.

I don't understand, whats so Sci-Fi like on just some kind of extra iron weights that simple make the sword heavier?!? As I said earlier, I think their should be some energy amps for energy based melee weapons and something like extra weights for normal melee weapons.
