I had that idea about making drones "tamable" since a while already so I just thought, why not finaly write it down?
![]() How could that happen: My idea was to introduce a new type of item, some special computer chip you need to insert into a dead drone, then hack its system. A special "hacker" skill is needed to determine your chance of success comparable to the normal animal taming skills, maybe we could just make use of the existing "Computer" skill there as well, but then again crafters would be too much in advance in a feature that is ment for people who go out into the fields. When you successfully hacked the drone you get a deed and it gets transfered into your inventory, as every pet. To fill its health bar you have to repair it in the repair terminal or maybe you have to "feed" it with - already existing - batterys, so the normal repair systems work properly and it heals itself again. However to make any use of this idea, MA would need to make the hacked drones be able to attack other mobs ofcourse. Such hacked robots would be perfect bodyguards for miners in my opinion or just a nice feature out there in addition to the normal - yet useless - pets. ![]() |

I'm for it. I already like to chase drones around until they get bored with you and scan them for skills. To the converse of what you said though, I've received lots of crafting and mining-related skills (ie, computer, mechanics, electronics) that have helped in those areas. But a new "hacker" profession sounds quite cool.
![]() Too bad they've reduced the dodge you can get from them. |

The real problem i believe is the indisposition of MA to actually finish something they start before they get bored with it or see that it doesn't bring them any money. How many incomplete or allready scrapped systems and features we have? The rudimental taming and spaceflight systems are the most visible examples, we also have a couple of unused skills and how many different concepts of inventory (especially addidional slots and closer info about the avatar) have been tested and scrapped?
MA seems to find every possible reason to not do something that is wanted by the comunity untill they run out of reasons. Then they quickly throw something together and release it to the crowd and don't bother returning to the "system" anymore. Take taming for example: let's ignore the obvious uselessness of such a system, other than simple eye-candy since the pets STILL CAN'T DO ANYTHING other than follow around and act as mobile ad screens, for a moment and remember when it was launched and how many improvements since then were made - IIRC it's around for like 2 years and guess what? STILL one can ONLY tame TWO mobs . Same about spaceflight - for how long is that system online? longer than taming i'm sure, alltho my memory often fails me when i try to remember PE-related things, and still there is no controlled flying, no ~space~, no nothing; to save up ststem resources, instead of the shuttles we could use teleporters with similar effect. Same thing again goes for pretty much all that is Mindforce-related and can one honestly say Mindforce system is running at 100%? (this has been the one system from what we have now that MA needed the longest time to launch, i believe it was advertised before PE went gold)So there you pretty much have it: even if all the players get togethert and scream loud enough for a robot hacking system and even if MA actually makes one, it will be as useless and pointless as taming, makeup or housing. |

Heh, first read this title and thought, no way am i using my whips on a robot, the metal is sure to have sharp edges and i dont want my whip getting cut up and ruined
plus would look kinda dumb, whipping on a robot thats shooting at you, kinda like bringing a knife to a gun fight ![]() Then read and it was rather interesting, i would probably get into it if this idea were to be implemented, i just dont see it happening though |
